How do I receive upper level credit?

Using our message board, you can team up with other students, from any major, in order to work on a project using your various skills and perspectives.

There could be just 2 people, or as many as about 4 students collaborating for one course. However, the true "max" number depends on how many advisers are willing to oversee your project, or how many students they feel comfortable overseeing.

But how do I get my upper level credits?

In order to receive upper level credit, you must contact faculty members from the various departments involved in the project. For example, if a music major and a visual arts major decided to create a documentary together, faculty from the music and visual arts departments would need to be contacted.

You then have to have the faculty members agree to oversee your project for the semester. This basically means, from time to time, the faculty advisers would check in with your progress on the project, and eventually give you a grade at the end of the semester. Using the previous example, the music adviser would oversee the soundtrack being written, and the visual arts adviser would oversee the creation of the film. Both advisers would then grade you based on the final documentary.

Now you might ask, what class do I register for in order to do this?

The answer to that question is, you have a few options. However, all of the options' course numbers are 400. Meaning you could register for a MUSC 400, DANC 400, THTR 400, etc. depending on what your project is, and who your advisers are. In any major, the 400 course number corresponds to an independent study, or a special project, which is exactly what you would be doing.

Your group/team would meet whenever convenient, and work on your decided project throughout the semester, with limited help from your faculty advisers.

Can you sum it all up for me again?

The process is quite simple actually.

1. Go to the message board and find other students to collaborative with. (Look for existing postings or post something yourself!)

2. Get in contact and discuss your project and end goals.

3. Contact faculty from the departments relevant to the project.

4. Find your advisers and sign up for a 400 level.

5. Create something awesome you couldn't have by yourself!

6. Show it off at the end of the year!
